SPARTANBURG COUNTY, S.C. — Australian-based packaging manufacturer Detpak USA has selected Spartanburg County as the location of its first manufacturing operation in the United States, bringing a multi-million-dollar investment and creating more than 50 new jobs during the project’s initial phase.

The company announced Thursday that it will establish operations at 2781 New Cut Road in Spartanburg, where it will occupy an approximately 175,000-square-foot production facility. Production is expected to begin in August 2026.

Detpak, a subsidiary of Australia’s Detmold Group, manufactures premium packaging products for quick-service restaurants, food service providers, fast-moving consumer goods companies, and retail customers. Founded in 1981, the company serves customers in 45 countries and operates manufacturing facilities across eight countries. It currently has U.S. sales offices in Los Angeles and Tampa.

According to the company, the new Spartanburg County facility will support its growing North American customer base while utilizing both imported materials and raw materials sourced from existing suppliers.

The South Carolina Coordinating Council for Economic Development approved a $100,000 Set-Aside Grant to Spartanburg County to help offset building improvement costs associated with the project.

“As we continue to grow our global footprint, opening our own manufacturing facility in the United States is a key milestone for our business,” said Sascha Detmold Cox, CEO of Detmold Group. “It allows us to better support our customers with locally manufactured products while reinforcing our long-term commitment to the U.S. market. We’re proud to be investing in the Spartanburg community and creating new employment opportunities in South Carolina.”

South Carolina Governor Henry McMaster praised the announcement, calling the project “a win for South Carolina” and highlighting the addition of more than 50 new jobs to Spartanburg County.

South Carolina Secretary of Commerce Harry M. Lightsey III said Detpak’s decision reinforces the state’s reputation as a business-friendly destination for international manufacturers.

The project also received support from regional leaders. SC Ports President and CEO Micah Mallace noted the importance of Inland Port Greer in providing manufacturers with efficient access to the Port of Charleston, while Spartanburg County Council Chairman Manning Lynch said the investment demonstrates confidence in the county’s workforce and business climate.

Individuals interested in employment opportunities with Detpak can apply through the company’s online careers page.

The announcement adds another international manufacturer to Spartanburg County’s growing industrial sector, continuing the Upstate’s reputation as one of the nation’s leading destinations for advanced manufacturing and distribution investments.

Upstate SC Alliance President and CEO John Lummus said the company’s decision validates the Upstate as a premier location for food, beverage, and packaging manufacturers.
