The Woodruff volleyball team got their season started with a bang over the weekend.
The Lady Wolverines competed in a tournament at Byrnes High School and finished as the top team in their bracket by going 4-1 on the day.
Woodruff started the day with consecutive wins over Clover and Gaffney in three sets each. Against the Blue Eagles, the Lady Wolverines rebounded after falling in set one and took the next two by scores of 25-15 and 15-10. Against Gaffney, Woodruff won set one, 25-20, and set three, 15-13, to claim the victory.
Their only setback of the day was in match three against Fountain Inn, which the Lady Wolverines dropped in two sets. However, they rebounded nicely in the final two contests of the day.
Woodruff defeated Greer Middle College in three sets, taking set one 25-17 and set three 15-13. They ended their day by defeating Gaffney once more, this time in just two sets with scores of 25-20 and 25-19.
It was a terrific start for a new-look and young Lady Wolverine squad that set the tone for their regular-season schedule, which begins next week.
