SPARTANBURG — ReGenesis Health Care has received more than $2.4 million in grant funding to expand rural health care, dental services and treatment for opioid use disorder, according to a Sept. 18 announcement from the organization.

The Spartanburg-based nonprofit received a total of $2,422,816 from two sources. That includes $1,198,316 through South Carolina’s Rural Health Transformation Program and $1,224,500 from the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund.

The Rural Health Transformation Program is a federal initiative led by the Centers for Medicare & Medicaid Services. The program provides funding for projects involving access to care, health care infrastructure, technology, workforce development and new approaches to delivering care in rural communities.

ReGenesis will use its Rural Health Transformation funding for three projects.

The first project, “Leveling Up to Expand Remote Patient Monitoring,” received $425,000. According to ReGenesis, the funding will expand remote monitoring for patients receiving chronic care management. Remote patient monitoring allows health care providers to track certain patient health information outside a clinical setting.

A second project, “Connections to Care to Modernize Health IT Infrastructure,” received $333,316. The funding is intended to improve the organization’s health information technology and strengthen connections among patients, health care providers and services.

The third project, “Wellness Within Reach to Expand Community Care Sites,” received $440,000. ReGenesis plans to use the money to upfit one of its mobile medical centers to provide dental services. The mobile unit will allow the organization to bring oral health services into communities within its service area.

ReGenesis also received $1,224,500 from the South Carolina Opioid Recovery Fund. According to the organization, the money will be used to expand the availability of treatment for opioid use disorder and related services.

The Opioid Recovery Fund supports programs intended to address the effects of the opioid crisis in South Carolina. Expanding access to treatment for opioid use disorder is among the fund’s approved uses.

ReGenesis Health Care is a nonprofit health care organization that operates 10 locations in Spartanburg, Cherokee and Union counties. It is one of 19 federally qualified community health centers in South Carolina and the only such center serving those three counties.
