The Woodruff school district is adding security cameras across its campuses and arranging landscaping care for the new high school’s athletic and band fields.
At its October meeting, the Spartanburg County District Four Board of Trustees approved spending more than $313,000 on surveillance equipment. The funds come from a state grant, not local district funds, Superintendent Dr. Aaron Fulmer said. The purchase from Encore Technology Group will replace existing servers and cameras and add about 40 cameras.
The board also approved a contract with Harrison Landscape Management for just over $34,000 to maintain and landscape the athletic and band fields at the new high school.
Before the business portion of the meeting, the board and district staff recognized 11 students who earned perfect scores on at least one section of the annual SC Ready assessment. The test is given each spring to students in third through eighth grades.
This year’s honorees were:
- Reed Broadway, third-grade math
- Emery Lineburger, third-grade math
- Cameron Mock, third-grade math
- Capri Sugalski, third-grade math and English language arts
- Valerie Brock, fourth-grade English language arts
- Savannah Gilliam, fourth-grade English language arts
- Truett Phillips, fourth-grade science
- Paisley Price, fourth-grade math
- Maydon Sanchez, fourth-grade math
- Keefer Young, fifth-grade math
- Jeorgina Greanopulos, eighth-grade math
The administration also recognized Kloe Freeman, a Woodruff student in 10th grade at Spartanburg County Early College High School. Freeman was named the 10th-grade winner of the Judge J. Mark Hayes II Law Day Essay Contest.
In other business, the board approved several new and updated policies for the coming year. School policies are updated as needed to comply with changes from the state Board of Education and laws passed by the South Carolina Legislature or Congress.
The board also approved a small change to the school calendar, moving a half-day off from the end of the school year to Dec. 18 to better accommodate the high school’s new block schedule.
