ENOREE — A proposed bridge replacement would restore the Enoree River crossing connecting Beaverdam Church Road and Kilgore Bridge Road at the Laurens-Spartanburg county line, with construction tentatively scheduled to begin in early 2028.

The South Carolina Department of Transportation is accepting public comments through Oct. 30, 2026, as engineering work continues on the project.

According to SCDOT’s project information, the new bridge would be built on or near the previous bridge’s alignment. The former bridge has been demolished, and the road remains closed to traffic.

The crossing carries S-112, known as Beaverdam Church Road in Laurens County, and S-116, known as Kilgore Bridge Road in Spartanburg County. SCDOT identifies restoring that river crossing as the purpose of the project.

The bridge had been scheduled for repairs before Hurricane Helene struck in fall 2024. SCDOT said the storm damaged the structure beyond repair and left it structurally unstable, prompting its demolition for public safety.

In spring 2025, the agency sought community input on options that included replacing the bridge or permanently closing the crossing and removing it from the state system. The current proposal calls for a replacement.

Preliminary Schedule Calls for Construction in 2028

SCDOT’s estimated schedule lists right-of-way acquisition beginning in early 2027, followed by construction in early 2028. Construction is expected to take approximately 12 months.

Those dates are preliminary estimates. SCDOT says engineering will take time and that progress updates will be posted on the project website.

The public comment period opened Oct. 1 and continues through Oct. 30. Residents can review the proposal and submit feedback through SCDOT’s Enoree River bridge project page.
