This Friday, Woodruff faces off against region rival Mountain View Prep in a matchup of teams struggling to find defensive consistency. The Wolverines have struggled mightily against the run the past two games, while the Stars have fought for consistency on defense all season. Both teams are putting up points, and this week may very well be another matchup of “Can you top this?” on offense.

About the Wolverines
The hard truth is, Woodruff has struggled mightily on defense the past two games against Southside Christian and Chesnee. Conversely, the offense turned in its best game of the season last Friday. The feeling is, if Woodruff can shore up the defensive side of the ball, then the Wolverines can get back on track.
The offense, as it has, flows through quarterback Connor Davis, running back Jaylen Lyles, and receivers Curtis Bell and MiCah McClintock. Lyles set the new single-game rushing record last week against Chesnee with 329 yards, and Bell turned in a career night of eight catches for 164 yards.
Simply put, the Wolverines must find a way to stop the run. This week, they face a Mountain View Prep team that is more pass-heavy than the previous two opponents but can also score a lot of points. If the defense buckles down and has a good night, then Woodruff will put itself in a good position to come away with a win.
About the Stars
It has been a struggle defensively much of the season for Mountain View Prep. The Stars enter this week’s game giving up an average of 37 points per game. It is a gaudy number that should have the Woodruff offense confident. However, Mountain View Prep can also score a lot of points, too.
Offensively, MVP is led by senior quarterback Jacoby Kelly. He is flanked in the backfield by a pair of sophomore running backs in Jemo Stinson and Jamar Brown. Savion Booker leads the Stars’ receiving corps, while big tight end Chase Richards provides a very visible target for Kelly.
Defensively, Brown doubles as a linebacker who is among the team leaders in tackles. Senior linebacker Eli Grimes and junior defensive lineman Marius Fleming are two more names to watch for MVP, and in the secondary, Christopher Gardner is another.

In Memory of Bryan Davis
Instead of a coach’s corner segment in this week’s preview, our prayers and condolences are extended to the family of Mr. Bryan Davis, father of Woodruff senior linebacker and punter Brycen Davis, who passed away unexpectedly last Saturday.
Bryan was a loving and devoted father, husband and Woodruff Wolverine. Our community deeply mourns his loss. This week’s game, and the remainder of the 2026 season, are dedicated to the loving memory of Bryan Davis.
